The purpose of these types of studies is to ascertain whether products such as baby wipes, facial cleansing wipes, etc. are tolerated at sites of the body, which will come into regular contact with the product.

Typically, volunteers are supplied with the test product to use at home for 4 weeks. The test area, e.g. face, eyes, etc. is examined for signs of skin irritation (redness and dryness) at baseline and after 2 and 4 weeks of use by a trained skin assessor. A Dermatology consultant examines the subjects at Baseline and after 4 weeks of product use.

Volunteers are given sufficient test product to use daily for 4 weeks. A diary sheet to record applications and compliance is also provided to the volunteer. A further facial skin is performed on day 14 (±1 day) by an Alba trained skin assessor and on Day 28 (±1 day) by both the Alba trained skin assessor and a dermatology consultant.
