24 Hour Patch Test

The objective of this type of study is to assess the skin irritation potential of test materials, together with positive and negative controls, following 1 x 23 hour application with assessment of reactions approximately 1 hour after each patch removal. The study method has been developed to discriminate between formulations for irritation potential. The test is conducted in a panel consisting of approximately 25 volunteers.

Skin reactions would be assessed by highly trained assessors, throughout the course of the study and a programme of statistical analysis would be conducted at the end to analyse and compare the study results for Erythema, Dryness and Irritation. Results would then be compared to the controls.
